"We are back from Shimbwe
safe and sound and with many memories of a wonderful
fortnight. I knew I would enjoy my time in Tanzania, I
didn't realise just how much I would enjoy it. All
ten of us had an amazing time and learnt so much.
Everyone who sees me says "What was it like?" It is very
difficult to know where to start a reply, though once I
start there's no shutting me up!"
"Thanks
again for all you have done to make the link between our
two schools possible. We will never forget the welcome
and generosity we received from Adlolf and his family,
from Sabrina, from all the members of staff and from the
students of Shimbwe School. We will remember Tanzania
for many different reasons but, above all, for its
friendly, generous and courteous
people. We might be able to help in a few ways, but the
people of Tanzania have much to teach us."
"The two
organisations have built a very close relationship,
as this will allow both sides to learn and develop. This
is achieved through correspondence and exchanged
self-financed visits. Several members have self-financed
trips to Tanzania, which enabled them to witness for
themselves how the money raised is being put into good
use. During the visit Dr Tesha, one of the founder
members, did his regular voluntary eye work in Kilimanjaro
Christian Medical Centre and outreach clinics. Dr Tesha
has being doing this type of work for many years."
"In addition
to this, while attending a conference in Dublin, Fr Beatus,
the liaison officer visited Tunbridge Wells and met some
of the trustees and supporters. Moreover, the headmaster
of Shimbwe Secondary School, the deputy headmaster,
several
teachers and several sixth form pupils from
Wheldon School
in Nottingham
exchanged visits. Their experience was both
educational and inspirational. The team
returned with renewed enthusiasm and motivation to
continue their support, and act as ambassadors for Shimbwe
Development Trust."
